Brad, here. My circus my monkeys…
A brain injury sparked Hot Wing & A Prayer. It left me with double vision for months, and I couldn’t read. So I drew, I hadn’t in ages. Spitting mad rhymes at the friend who got me drawing, “…hot wing and a prayer” slipped out of who knows where? “Sounds like a cartoon dynamic duo!” we laughed. Thus was born Hot Wing & A Prayer, the supernova upstart motivational tag team coming for Tony Roberts’ crown of thorns.
I drew their origin story — my first comic book — in pen & ink, but ran into newb production challenges. I switched to digital drawing, which I’d never done. Beyond the comic, I drew gag panels and strips, cooked up games and merch, built a website, wrote theme songs, DIY-ed a video clip HWAP recap…
I want Hot Wing & A Prayer to be a Web 3 joint — the future, and all — so I also played with NFT ideas. The result? Hot Wing & A Prayer: IYKYK, an NFT-as-global-scavenge with rangy and abnormal traits.
Speaking of rangy and abnormal, my “career” has cut an odd and broad swath across American subculture, with decades in NYC moving between theater, dance, music and art worlds, and (more) decades in Venice Beach writing — journalism, copywriting, ‘biz — creating digital media and music. Surfing some. I live in Ojai, CA, now, miraculously still ticking despite a couple health-as-bloodsport episodes.
Big up for checking out Hot Wing & A Prayer: IYKYK. Look for more HWAP upcoming!
